Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Is a Predictor of Relapse

چکیده
Tumor development is angiogenesis dependent, and vascular endothe 11*1 growth factor (VEGF) is a key growth factor in this process. We demonstrate that high expression of VEGF mRNA in 55 superficIal blad der cancers was associated with earlier recurrence (P = 0.001; hazard ratio, 3.09) and progression to a more invasive phenotype (P = 0.02; hazard ratio, 533). VEGF mRNA expression correlated with protein levels in superficial tumors (r 0.59, P 0.003) and normal bladder (r 0.65, P < 0.05), although the ratio of VEGF protein to mRNA was elevated In tumors compared to normal bladder (P = 0.004), suggesting posttranscriptional regulation. In this study, VEGF is implicated as a major downstream mediator of the effects of the p5.3 tumor suppressor gene by the association between high p53 protein (determined immuno chemically) and high VEGF protein and mRNA expression (P < 0.02), although in cases without high p53 protein expression, high VEGF mRNA also predicts a poor prognosis. The relationship between VEGF and early twnor recurrence suggests that seeding via angiogenesis may be a major mechanism in the pathogenesis of recurrence. These studies indicate that VEGF can predict the behavior of superfidal bladder tumors and is a therapeutic target for intravesical therapy.

Prognostic significance of vascular endothelial growth factor protein levels in T1-2 N0 laryngeal cancer treated with primary radiation therapy.
BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to assess the prognostic value of vascular endothelial growth factor protein levels in a large cohort of patients with T1-T2 N0 laryngeal cancer treated with primary radiation therapy (XRT). METHODS Primary tumor specimens from a cohort of 123 patients with T1-T2 N0 laryngeal cancer treated with XRT between 1975 and 2000 were constructed into a tissue ...

s:865:"We read with interest the manuscript entitled "Serum and peritoneal fluid levels of vascular endothelial growth factor in women with endometriosis" recently published in the International Journal of Fertility and Sterility (1). The authors measured the levels of vascular endothelial growth factor in serum and peritoneal fluid of 179 women, 90 of whom were diagnosed with endometriosis, an...
متن کاملVascular Endothelial Growth Factor from Embryonic Status to Cardiovascular Pathology
Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is a multifunctional cytokine with distinct functions in angiogenesis, lymphangiogenesis, vascular permeability, and hematopoiesis. VEGF is a highly conserved, disulfide-bonded dimeric glycoprotein of 34 to 45 kDa produced by several cell types including fibroblasts, neutrophils, endothelial cells, and peripheral blood mononuclear cells, particularly T ...
متن کاملPnm-9: Serum and Peritoneal Fluid Level of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor in Endometriosis
Background: Endometriosis is known as one of the most common disease in women of reproductive age. Due to importance role of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in neo-vascularization for the implantation of endometrial cell and different reported results for VEGF level in the serum and peritoneal fluid (PF) in endometriosis patients, this study was designed to determine the serum and PF ...

Introduction: Odontogenic cysts are osteodestructive lesions affecting the jaws. Odontogenic keratocyst is an odontogenic cyst with highly aggressive features. Multicystic ameloblastoma is a benign epithelial odontogenic tumor with more aggressive behavior than dentigerous cyst and odontogenic keratocyst. Invasion and metastasis of tumors require increased blood vessels during tumorigenesis. Th...
